Ito's spring tradition "Omuroyama Mountain Grilling Tournament" held (2/12)|Flames and sounds running up from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain

On Sunday, February 12, 2023, the Mt. Omuro Preservation Committee (Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture) will hold the 44th Mt. Omuro Mountain Grilling Festival, a traditional event with a history of more than 700 years.

Mt. Omuro is a mountain that symbolizes Ito, whose cosmic silhouette is impressive. Mountain burning has been practiced for mountain conservation for more than 700 years, and has been developed as a tourism resource since Showa 30. Now tens of thousands of people gather every year.

The main place to visit is "Sakura no Sato" at the foot of the mountain. You can see the whole of Mt. Omuro from the large square. The events are held in the following order: "Bowl Grilling" (9:15), "Ceremony Shinto Ceremony (10:40)", and "Zenzanyaki (12:00)". The tour of the "bowl grilling" that ignites the top of the mountain is limited to 500 people. In the "Zenzanyaki" event, visitors can also experience lighting the foothills of the mountain (first-come, first-served). Those who wish can obtain numbered tickets distributed at 8:30 in the morning and purchase torches (1,000 yen each). Limited to 50 bottles on a first-come, first-served basis (up to 2 bottles per family).

The sight of the flames ignited at the foot of the mountain rushing up to the summit at an altitude of 580 meters is a masterpiece. At the end of the day, the mountainside is burned to black.
The event will be held from 9:15~16:00. If the event is canceled on the day due to strong winds or snowfall, an announcement will be made around 6:30 in the morning.

It takes about 6 minutes by lift to the summit of Mt. Omuro. Walking around the promenade around the crater for about 1 km is called a "bowl tour". Along the way, you can see Mt. Fuji, the Izu Islands, and Sagami Bay.
