"Hamada's Sashimi Soy Sauce Caramel" is newly released|Sweet and salty, melting texture

The Tourism Association of Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture, has started selling a unique souvenir product, "Hamada's Sashimi Soy Sauce Caramel," from Monday, November 6, 2023.

浜田のさしみ醤油キャラメル

The product is a caramel made with sashimi soy sauce from Fujimoto soy sauce, which is familiar in the local area. The taste is sweet and salty, like mitarashi dumplings, and is characterized by a melting texture. The retro-style package is yellow and black with the image of the Fujimoto soy sauce label, and the symbol of Hamada Port, "Marine Ohashi", is depicted.

Product development began in 2021 with a planning meeting at the Tourism Association. After the concept was decided, we contacted 10 factories, but we could not find a factory that would take care of the production, and it took a long time for the factory in Gifu Prefecture to take over. The commercialization was realized after being selected as a project of the Japan Foundation.

The selling price of the product is 270 yen (excluding tax) and the content is 80g (13 or 14 pieces). It is sold at specialty product stores, roadside stations, supermarkets, etc., as well as online. On November 23rd ~ 30th, a special sale is scheduled at Hibiya Shimanekan, an antenna shop in Tokyo.

The tourism association says, "We want you to know about Fujimoto and soy sauce through caramel." A portion of the proceeds will be used to pay for local beach cleanups.
