Discussion with Hoshino Resorts on the sale of Hotel Tateyama - Is it a reflection of the prefecture's tourism strategy?

On January 9, 2024, Tateyama Kurobe Nukimitsu, which operates the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in Toyama Prefecture, announced that it will begin discussions with Hoshino Resorts, which operates resort facilities, regarding the sale of "Hotel Tateyama" in Murodohira.

Hotel Tateyama was founded in 1972 and is located at an altitude of 2,450 meters. Tateyama Kurobe Nukimitsu explained that in response to the decline in the number of customers due to the new coronavirus, the consultation will proceed as part of the business restructuring. Since 2022, the company has outsourced the operation of the Yarigahara Hotel on the Alpine Route to a company in the prefecture.

 

The main shareholders of Tateyama Kurobe Nukimitsu are Toyama Regional Railway and Toyama Prefecture, and the major shareholders of Toyama Regional Railway are Tateyama Kurobe Nukimitsu and Toyama Prefecture. This shareholder composition is thought to be influenced by Toyama Prefecture's tourism strategy in the sale of Hotel Tateyama.

 

From June 30, 2024, the large-scale tourism project "Kurobe Unazuki Kinion Route" will start operation connecting the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route "Kurobe Dam" and the Kurobe Gorge Railway's "Kinpei Station (terminus)".
