Nagasaki Lantern Festival will be held from January 22nd|Revived for the first time in 3 years
From January 22 (Sun) ~ February 5 (Sun), the winter tradition "Nagasaki Lantern Festival" will be held for the first time in three years in Chinatown in the center of Nagasaki. The event was organized by the executive committee of Nagasaki City.
The "Nagasaki Lantern Festival" began in Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown during the 1987 Spring Festival. It was given its current name in 1994 and is held every winter. The forerunner of lantern events currently held in various parts of Japan.
During the period, Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, Hamamachi and Kanko Street will be decorated with about 15,000 lanterns and objects. In this space, there is the "Emperor Parade" (1/28/2/4), in which about 150 people march in Chinese costumes, and the "Mazu Procession" (1/29, 2/5), which is inspired by the crew of a Tang ship in the Edo period. In addition, there is the traditional performing art "Chinese Mask Show", which is treated as a Chinese state secret, and the "Nagasaki Love Lantern" of love fulfillment. The festival lighting ceremony will be held on the first day from 17:30 ~ 18:00 (lighting is scheduled for 18:00). The venue is Shinchi Chinatown and Central Park. The lantern lighting time is 17:00~22:00 during the period.
