Japan Tourism Agency "National Travel Support" Clarified Continuation After April | Excess of Allocation Budget to Prefectural Governments

The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) revealed at the Liberal Democratic Party's Tourism Establishment Committee on Wednesday, January 25, that most prefectures are expected to be able to continue nationwide travel support from April 2023 onward.

観光庁が全国旅行支援の継続を明らかに

The nationwide travel support is a separate project from the GoTo campaign, which was suspended in 2020, and has taken over the prefectural discount that was implemented for prefectural and regional blocks from the following year. The coverage area was expanded nationwide, and the first round began in October 2022, followed by an extension to start the second round on January 10, 2023. The national travel support may have ended by the end of FY2022 (March 2023) because the national government allocates the budget to prefectural governments and ends when it is spent.

This time, the Japan Tourism Agency said that due to the remaining budget situation, "it can be implemented nationwide until the end of March, and it is expected that it can be continued in most prefectures after April." Investigative Committee I told them.
