Cape Shiretoko Cruise in Hokkaido resumes operations|Council is strongly determined to ensure safe operation and prevention of accident weathering

From June 1, 2023 (Wednesday), the Shiretoko Small Sightseeing Boat Association in Shari Town, Hokkaido, has resumed the operation of the "Cape Shiretoko Cruise" from the sea to visit the famous places of the Shiretoko Peninsula, a World Heritage Site.

This year's first Cape Shiretoko cruise is a long-distance course of about 3 hours round trip, turning around near Cape Shiretoko. The council's Godzilla Rock Sightseeing small boat "Kamui Wakka 88" departed from the "Utoro Fishing Port" in Shari Town around 9 o'clock today, carrying a capacity of 28 people.

After the sinking of a sightseeing boat in April last year, the Shiretoko Small Boat Tourism Council suspended the operation of the "Cape Shiretoko Cruise", but when the sea conditions calmed down, the operation was started.

The Shiretoko Small Sightseeing Boat Association is an organization of four companies: Godzilla Rock Tourism, Shiretoko Cruiser Sightseeing Boat Dolphin, Shiretoko World Heritage Cruise FOX, and Hokkaido Tourism Development. The Shiretoko sightseeing boat that caused the accident is out of business. The council secretariat said, "We will not let the tragic accident fade away, and we will strive for safe operation on a daily basis with strong determination."
