Local junior high school students protect the beautiful scenery by cleaning up Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three scenic spots

On the morning of Wednesday, June 21, 2023, students from the local Miyazu Junior High School participated in a cleanup activity at Amanohashidate, one of the Three Scenic Views of Japan in Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, in order to pass on the beautiful scenery to the next generation. The cleanup activity has been held every year before the summer tourist season since Heisei 21, and this year about 150 students in the first and third grades participated. In the morning, we spent about an hour collecting 50 bags of leaves and garbage that had fallen on the ground of the green pine trees that make up the landscape of Amanohashidate. The pine needles will be sorted for use as fertilizer, and will be taken back by Kyoto Prefecture for use in farms and ranches.

The cleanup activities are carried out to protect the wonderful scenery of Amanohashidate and to protect the pride of the local community. One of the students who finished the cleanup said, "We want to protect our area and I hope that tourists who come to the beach will be impressed by the beautiful Amanohashidate and want to come back." The vice-principal says, "As a member of the community, it is an opportunity for students to protect the beautiful scenery and deepen their love for their hometown by cleaning with their own hands."

At the same time, second-year junior high school students took third-grade students from Miyazu Elementary School to clean up downtown Miyazu.
