Mt. Sulphur, also known as Atosanupuri (Naked Mountain in the Ainu language), is known as the source of Kawayu Onsen, a famous hot spring in Akan Mashu National Park. From the early Meiji era to the Showa 30s, it was used as a mine to mine sulfur.
