Recruiting young artists to stay in Takehara's Judenken district and create barrier paintings
The Seto Inland Sea Ecotourism Council is looking for three young artists to create barrier paintings in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture from January to February 2024 as part of the "Barrier Painting Project".

The "Barrier Painting Project" is a program in which young artists stay in Takehara City and create works that contribute to the charm of the region and the preservation of cultural properties. The artists selected by the judging will create works at the facilities in the Takehara Townscape Preservation District between January 15 ~ February 19 next year. After the work is completed, it will first be shown to international travelers and then shown to the public.
Applicants must be 39 years old or younger, regardless of nationality. To apply, submit the application form and past works (10~20 sheets) in PDF format (deadline: 10/16). Local and art community officials will judge the results, and the results will be notified in early November. The artist will be paid 400,000 yen for the production of the work, and will also be subsidized for travel expenses, transportation expenses, accommodation expenses, art supplies, etc.
Takehara City is a town along the Seto Inland Sea, and the Takehara Townscape Preservation District is an old town designated as a nationally important traditional buildings preservation district. The project was adopted by the Japan Tourism Agency's "Tourism Restart Project".
