The steam eruption originated on June 29 in the Yuri district of Rankoshi Town, and was brought under control on August 29 when the site was reclaimed. Mitsui Oil & Gas Exploration Co., Ltd. said, "At present, the development of geothermal power generation is unthinkable, and we have been focusing on responding to local residents and individual businesses. In the future, the only thing we can do is to compensate and investigate the cause." The Rankoshi Town General Affairs Division, which responds to this matter, evaluates that "(the company's) response in the area is polite." After the incident, the front page of the company's corporate website displayed an apology and explanation of the steam eruption.
