Are station executives more likely to touch donations? Former Japan Sea TV executive embellishes 24-hour TV donation

Japan Television affiliate Japan Sea Television (Tottori Prefecture) announced on November 28, 2023 that former executive employee Masahiro Tamura (53 years old) had embezzled a total of 11,182,575 yen in sales. Among them, 2,646,020 yen was donated to Japan TV's "24-hour TV".

Former executive employee Masahiro Tamura was in charge of accounting at the head of the Corporate Strategy Bureau, and in addition to donations from "24-hour TV," 8,530,655 yen was embezzled from the company's sales. The company dismissed the former director for disciplinary reasons and reported the damage to the Tottori Prefectural Police Department.

According to the investigation, the former director habitually embezzled a total of about 2.6 million yen from donations for "24-hour television" for 10 years from 2014 to 2023. The modus operandi was to take out the donations stored in the head office and transfer them to their own bank account before bringing them to the financial institution after the fundraising was completed.

At the beginning of November, the former director general filed a tax return with the company himself, fearing that he would be discovered in a tax audit. Japan Sea TV explains that 4,484,200 yen has been returned so far, and the remaining amount will be refunded. All donations will be donated to the 24-hour TV Charity Committee by Japan Television Station.

In response to this news, voices such as "hypocritical program", "cancel the program", and "this is not enough" have been raised on the Internet.

For 10 years, the sloppy management of donations was revealed by the fact that the clothes were dressed. From this time, it is assumed that when donations are stored at 24-hour TV broadcasting stations, it is easy for executives to touch donations. It is necessary to conduct a survey of the executives of Japan Television and its affiliates. In addition, if you check with Hiroshima TV in the Chugoku region, which is the same as Japan Sea TV, they will tell you that "when donations are stored at the bureau, they are stored under a special lock, deposited with a contractor, and transported to a financial institution."
