"Yokai River Willow Contest" is being held at Sakaiminato, a town of Yokai (deadline 12/31)
The Sakaiminato Tourism Association in Tottori Prefecture is holding the "Yokai River Willow Contest" and is accepting entries until Sunday, December 31, 2023.

The "Yokai River Willow Contest" is an annual year-end open call for contests that will be held for the 18th time this year. We are looking for Kawayanagi with the theme of yokai, and more than 2,000 poems are collected every year. There are two categories for entry: the general category and the junior high school student and younger category, and each person can apply for up to three works. The best works will be selected in the general category and the junior high school student and younger divisions, with one grand prize and three other works each. In addition to the selection committee, the works will be judged by manga artist Kenji Hirokane as a special judge. The winners will be announced in late February 2024. The creator of the selected work will receive a certificate of commendation and Sakaiminato's specialties and yokai goods.
It is located in the western part of Tottori Prefecture and borders Shimane Prefecture across the Sakai Channel Sakaiminato City (Repo) is the birthplace of manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, and popular places include Shigeru Mizuki Road, where 177 bronze statues of yokai are present, and his memorial hall. The Sakaiminato Tourism Association says, "We want many people to know about yokai through the contest and increase the momentum of tourism."
