Kyoto City Introduces "Sightseeing Limited Express Bus" Next Move|With Proposal for Dispersion of Tourism

As a countermeasure against the congestion problem of city buses due to the increase in foreign tourists visiting Japan, Kyoto City will start annual operation of two new "Sightseeing Limited Express Buses" connecting Kyoto Station and the Higashiyama area on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Kyoto City aims to reduce congestion by separating public transportation between citizens and tourists through the "Sightseeing Limited Express Bus". The two "Sightseeing Limited Express Bus" routes connect Kyoto Station with the Higashiyama area, where tourists gather. One is the "EX101" (16 trains per day) that directly connects Kyoto Station to Gojozaka (Kiyomizu-dera), and the other is the "EX100" (24 trains) that runs from Kyoto Station to Gojozaka (the same as the same line), Gion, Heian Jingu Shrine, and Ginkakuji Temple. As a result, it is expected to take about 20 minutes to get from Kyoto Station to Ginkakuji Temple compared to a regular city bus.

The fare is 500 yen for adults and 250 yen for children, which is about twice the normal city bus fare (230 yen for adults and 120 yen for children).

As soon as the coronavirus pandemic comes to an end, Kyoto City will start operating a "Sightseeing Express Bus" to deal with overtourism that has resurfaced. In addition, the city encourages the dispersion of the "time," "time," and "place" of tourism proposal We are working to alleviate the problem of overtourism.
