The fusion of Dalí and rakugo in a one-day only "Dalí vaudeville" - Morohashi Museum of Modern Art 25th Anniversary

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the Morohashi Museum of Modern Art, located in the national park of Urabandai, Fukushima Prefecture, will hold a "Dali Yoseki" performance by a famous rakugo artist from Aizuwakamatsu City, Sanyutei Kaneyoshi.

The Morohashi Museum of Modern Art is an art museum known for the works of Salvador Dalí, and "Dalí Vaudeville" was held for the first time to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the museum's opening. On the day of the event, in a special room decorated with Dalí's masterpiece "The Battle of Tetouan", a painting measuring about 3m x 4m will be used as a backdrop by a painting measuring about 3m x 4m, and the master Sanyutei Kaneyoshi will perform Japan classical rakugo.

 

Since Master Sanyutei Kaneyoshi is from Aizuwakamatsu City and has visited the museum in the past, the museum staff thought of creating a new form of art entertainment by combining Dalí's outlandish character and rakugo as a commemorative project for the museum's 25th anniversary.

 

Participation is free, and an admission fee to the museum (1,500 yen for adults, 600 yen for high school and university students, free for junior high school students and younger) is required. Advance reservations are not required, numbered tickets will be distributed from 13:00 on the day of the performance, and the performance will be 14:00~14:30. There are about 20 chairs in the venue, and the rest are standing room.

 

After working as a reporter for Town Magazine, Sanyutei Kaneyoshi joined Sanyutei Koraku Master in 1998 at the age of 28, which gained popularity on Japan TV's "Laughing Point" and other programs. After receiving numerous awards, he was promoted to Shinichi in September 20 and changed his name to Kaneyoshi. A rakugo artist who is widely active in performances and media, and it is difficult to get tickets.

 

To access the museum, take the Aizu Bus from JR Inawashiro Station and get off at the Morohashi Museum of Modern Art bus stop in about 25~30 minutes. By car, it takes about 20 minutes from the Bandai Kogen IC on Bandoshi Road.

 

The Morohashi Museum of Modern Art will hold the exhibition "The 120th Anniversary of Salvador Dally's Genius" from April 20 to September 1 after the winter holidays. A museum representative said, "We hope that this endeavor will provide a new perspective on Dalí's work and give it an opportunity to enjoy it."
