Renewal of Shigeru Mizuki Memorial Hall - A special exhibition approaching the birth of Kitaro has started

The Shigeru Mizuki Memorial Museum stores and exhibits a collection of yokai collected by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki (who died in 2015 at the age of 93), who was born and raised in Sakaiminato City, as well as original drawings of Mizuki's works such as Gegege no Kitaro, and has been closed for reconstruction since March last year.

 

The permanent exhibition introduces Shigeru Mizuki's eventful life and works in six chapters. In the first exhibition, "The Birth of Kitaro: Four Stories of Rebirth," the story of Kitaro, a survivor of the ghost tribe, and his father will be revealed about the birth of the manga "Kitaro," which was drawn in 1960 by Shigeru Mizuki, a picture-story artist turned manga artist. The on-site shop sells specially produced original goods.

 

Advance admission is 900 yen for adults, 400 yen for junior high and high school students, 200 yen for elementary school students, and 200 yen for people with disabilities, and +100 yen on the day of the event. The museum is open from 9:30~17:00 (last entry at 16:30), open all year round.

 

There are 177 bronze statues of yokai on Mizuki Shigeru Road, which is about 800 meters from JR Sakaiminato Station to the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Hall.
