Japan's earliest blooming "Doi Cherry Blossom Festival" held - a new disaster prevention tourism facility at the venue
The "10th Doi Cherry Blossom Festival" will be held at the Matsubara Park Lawn Square in the Doi district of Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture from January 18 (Sat) ~ February 5 (Wed), 2025. During the period, the Doi cherry blossoms will be lit up (17:00~21:00), a stamp rally and the sale of 5 types of limited edition red seals and products. On weekends, programs include taiko shows, live music, and bonnet bus "Izu no Odoriko-go" tours (1/26 and 2/2).
The earliest bloomers in Japan, "Doi Sakura", usually begin to fray in mid-December and continue to bloom from the end of the year to mid-February. There are two types, the dark pink "red variety" and the light red "white variety", and about 400 Doi cherry trees are planted on the lawn of Matsubara Park, and you can enjoy the beautiful flower scenery.
New Disaster Prevention Tourism Facility Opens This Summer
In July of this year, the nation's first tsunami evacuation complex " Terrasse Orange Toy " is now open. It is a facility that can be enjoyed as a tourist spot while having a disaster prevention function. On the first floor, there is a store selling local products, a café, and a foot bath.
On the third floor, there is a restaurant that serves seafood and other dishes during the day and is open as a bar at night. In addition, the observation floor, which is 14 m above sea level, can be used as a shelter for up to 1200 people in the event of a tsunami
The event will be held at the park headquarters from 10:00 ~ 15:00, lit up from 17:00 ~ 21:00, and the facility opening hours of Terrasse Orange Toy will be 9:00 ~ 20:00 (depending on the store). The parking lot adjacent to the Matsubara Park Lawn Square is free of charge for 2 hours.
In addition, the Izu City Tourism Association Doi Branch is holding a photo contest for "Doi cherry blossoms" taken between New Year's Day 2024 ~ February 28, 2025.
