The Shibuya City Tourism Association will open a nighttime tourist information center "SHIBUYA WARM-UP STATION" for tourists visiting Japan for 5 days from February 7 (Thursday) ~ 11 (Tuesday), 2025 from 18:00 ~ 5:00 the next morning. The nighttime tourist information center "SHIBUYA WARM-UP STATION" provides information on night events and restaurants. In addition, wristbands that allow visitors to enjoy a welcome drink at partner stores will be distributed with the aim of decentralizing the number of tourists visiting Japan and improving their mobility. In addition, we will introduce a luggage storage service and an audio AR guide to improve convenience for tourists.
This initiative is sponsored by the Shibuya City Tourism Association using the "Nighttime Tourism Promotion Subsidy" (subsidy limit of 30 million yen) provided by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention & Tourism Foundation, and is planned by NEWSKOOL LLC. The daily usage fee for the Shibuya PARC Park Plaza, where the information center is located, is 1 million yen on weekdays and 1.3 million yen on Saturdays and Sundays (see facility materials).
Regarding the effectiveness of the five-day information center, the Shibuya Tourism Association explains, "We won't know until we try it for the first time, but we would like to verify the system for accepting tourists visiting Japan based on the knowledge we have gained here."
Issues for tourists visiting Japan around Shibuya Station
In 2024, with the rapid increase in the number of tourists visiting Japan, many tourists will gather in Shibuya at night in search of alcohol. However, word of mouth that "you can drink on the street in Shibuya" has spread, and in the area around the center of the city, there are frequent street drinking by groups including tourists visiting Japan and foreigners living in Japan. As a result, problems such as littering, noise, and even fights have occurred.
In order to solve this problem, Shibuya City will prohibit street drinking in the area around Shibuya Station from 18:00 ~ 5:00 the next morning from October 1, 2024 ordinance has been enforced. Along with this, there are 2 security guards patrolling each night and up to 18 on weekends.
Shibuya City explains the current situation, saying, "After the ordinance came into effect, Japan people tend to follow the rules, and some tourists visiting Japan and foreigners living in Japan do not know the ordinance, or even if they do, they continue to drink on the street, which is a problem."
