In Hida, the posthumous work of the late castle ruins illustrator Gentaro Kagawa is unveiled for the first time-at the roadside station, the Yamashiro corner, and the entrance to the castle ruins tourism

From Saturday, April 26, 2025, Hida City, Gifu Prefecture, will open the "Sengoku Romance 'Yamashiro' Information Corner" in the "Roadside Station Alp Hida Furukawa" with the theme of mountain castles scattered throughout the area. The unpublished posthumous work of castle illustrator Gentaro Kagawa, who passed away suddenly last fall, "Rough Sketch of the Ruins of Masushima Castle" will be released for the first time.

This corner was planned against the backdrop of interest in "castle ruins tourism," which has been attracting attention in recent years. The "Anekoji Castle Ruins", which was designated as a national historic site, and the "Masushima Castle Ruins" built during the Warring States period, etc. Mountain castles scattered in the Furukawa Basin Spread the word about the appeal of the company.

 

From the opening, under the theme of "Exploring the Castles of Hida Furukawa," panels will be exhibited that introduce the structure of the castle, the scenery of the time, and the footprints of successive warlords such as Hida Kuniji and Anekoji, Miki, and Kanamori.

 

Among them, the late Gentaro Kagawa "Rough sketch of the ruins of Masushima Castle" by. Known for his realistic depictions and his unique bird's-eye view of the city from above, Mr. Kagawa has created eight castle illustrations for Hida City. This is the ninth unfinished work that will be exhibited at the time of his sudden death during production, and will be shown for the first time.

Admission is free. The museum is open from 9:00~17:00 in April ~ October and until 16:00 in November ~ March.

 

Hida City says, "We would like to promote a sightseeing trip where you can experience the flow of history from the mountain castle that spreads out in the Furukawa Basin to the castle town of Hida Furukawa, starting from the roadside station."
