Japan Tourism Agency|Announcement of GoTo Travel Participating Businesses' Reservation Status for January ~ May 2021 (compared to 2019)
On May 11, 2021, the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) announced a web questionnaire survey on the reservation status of January ~ May 2021 among participants in the accommodation and travel industries in light of the temporary suspension of the Go To Travel business.

According to the survey, compared to 2019, the reservation status of January ~ May 2021 decreased by more than 70%. The accommodation industry accounted for 42.3% in January, 43% in February, 31% in March, 42.3% in April, and 47.2% in May. The travel industry accounted for 81.4% in January, 84% in February, 76% in March, 81.5% in April, and 84.2% in May.
While there was a slight recovery in March due to the rush to lift the second state of emergency and seasonal demand, the third emergency declaration in April put a sudden brake on reservations during the Golden Week period. The reason for the severe decline in the travel industry is thought to be the acceleration of personal travel through online arrangements and the fact that older people who use travel agencies are refraining from traveling. The survey during the Golden Week period will be announced at a later date.
