Okinawa Prefecture Kitanakagusuku Village Tourism Association|Update Tourism Association with Mission Statement

The tourism association of Kitanakagusuku Village in Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture, has created and announced a new mission statement and work rules for employees, stating that improving the happiness and health of employees is the foundation for tourism promotion. This is a rare outreach for a tourism association.

The association is known for its tourism association, which operates video distribution studios, film production, video campaigns, e-sports competitions, biodegradable straw promotion activities, and other unique businesses in the prefecture. Staff members have a variety of careers, including a former secretary general (a former film producer), a former Tokyo Metropolitan Government employee, a former construction salesman, a former firefighter, a former interior shop employee, a former disaster prevention-related organization employee, and a former overseas World Heritage guide.

 

In the tourism industry, the employment environment for tourism associations is not good nationwide. The association has a turnover rate of more than 80% in the five years since its establishment. In an attempt to resolve the situation, in June last year, we took the appointment of a new chairman as an opportunity for the second founding period to create a new mission statement*.

(*) This corresponds to the conventional management philosophy, but it is embodied and clearly stated as a policy for specific actions.

 

In line with the introduction of the mission, the work rules and salary evaluation have been revamped. Revised to include 20 days of paid leave per year, 7 days of marriage leave, and congratulatory and condolence leave for pets. What is unusual is that the spouse provision includes common-law marriages and same-sex marriage partnerships. We have also introduced an evaluation system that leads to bonuses and salary increases that show gratitude to each other.

<Key points of the revision of the Employment Rules>

●Paid leave (10 days per year): 20 days ⇒ years
●Elimination of the upper limit on hourly paid leave
●Summer Vacation (New) (5 days per year)
●Long-term service leave (new) (3 days for 3 years of service)
● Congratulatory and condolence leave: Marriage (3 days), ⇒ 7 days, pet death 1 day (new)
● Definition of spouse (on the family register) includes common-law marriage ⇒ same-sex marriage partnership

<Key points of the revision of salary rules>

● Housing allowance (new)
●ICT Allowance (New)
●Eating and drinking allowance in the village (new) Payment of food and beverage expenses at member restaurants of the association (maximum 12,000 yen per year)
●Thanks Card System (New): The number of thank you cards obtained by employees expressing their gratitude is reflected in the evaluation.
