The Shimoda Marine Aquarium in Shizuoka Prefecture will hold a beach cleanup event on the morning of Garbage Day on Sunday, May 30, 2021, on all sandy beaches in the city.

下田市 砂浜の清掃イベント

The event is open to everyone. From 9:00 a.m., garbage bags will be distributed at the parking lot of Yoshisami Ohama. Until 12:00, each participant will clean up on their favorite sandy beach in the city.
At the reception, you will receive a ticket to enter the Shimoda Marine Aquarium in the afternoon for 500 yen. After the cleanup, the participants are asked to come into contact with sea life and think about environmental issues.

Since 1991, Shimoda Marine Aquarium has been engaged in surveys, protection, and research on marine debris and sea turtles. In 2019, we started cleaning up the beach. This time, from May to July every year, we planned an event to think about the protection of sea turtles that come to the sandy beaches of Shimoda to lay eggs and the environmental problems of the sea.

"We have received many inquiries since the announcement, and we have received offers of cooperation from Shizuoka Prefecture and the Japan Coast Guard. I'm looking forward to the weekend." I will talk to you. In case of rain, it will be postponed to the environment day of Saturday, June 5.
