Akita, Saitama, and Kumamoto prefectures have announced that they will work to promote tourism by concluding a "family city" agreement based on the connection of the popular character "Crayon Shin-chan".
The background of the "Family City" project begins with the setting of the original "Crayon Shin-chan" comic (Futabasha), in which Shin-chan's father Hiroshi is from Akita and even his mother is from Kumamoto. Akita and Kumamoto are home to Shin-chan's grandparents, and Shin-chan often returns to his hometown in his work. Those two prefectures were connected to Saitama Prefecture, where Shin-chan and the Nohara family live.
On Wednesday, July 20, the governors of the three prefectures gathered in Saitama Prefecture to hold a ceremony to conclude the "Family City" agreement. The three prefectures, led by Shin-chan, plan to work together on tourism and regional revitalization.
