【Travel Report】Hida Furukawa To see the moving of Koi (first part)|Almost 1 night 1 day trip
Last weekend, I traveled for almost one night and one day to see the spring tradition of Hida Furukawa in Gifu Prefecture, the migration of carp. We will deliver the situation in three parts. In the first part, I will introduce the reason for the trip and how to arrive at Takayama before the Hida Furukawa River.

Castle town, Hida Furukawa tradition, carp moving
There is a small castle town, Furukawa, in Hida, Gifu Prefecture. Fresh in my memory is that it was the setting for the 2016 blockbuster anime movie "Your Name." It was visited by many fans from home and abroad.
In the impressive scenery of Furukawa, the Seto River and Shirakabe Dozo Street are swimming carp. The Seto River, which flows along the atmospheric houses that line the town, is used to wash away the snow that has been removed during the winter. Therefore, in late November, the carp are moved to the nearby Tenjin Pond, and in early April, they are returned to the Seto River. The carp move is a tradition that reminds us of the arrival of spring and winter.
This spring's koi move was on Saturday, April 2nd. Battle? The day before, " Hidasuke! – Hida City Tourist Information Center₋ Tweet from: It is an interesting photo for those who know the Seto River, which is used to seeing carp swimming.
Tomorrow is Setogawa Koi Moving Hidasuke!

Shinjuku to Hida Takayama and Furukawa
This trip was on the evening of Friday, April 1, when I took the Shinkansen Nozomi from Tokyo Station to Nagoya Station. From Nagoya, take a highway bus to Takayama Station (arrival at 23:30) on the same day. We will spend one night in Takayama and the next morning we will head to Hida Furukawa on the Takayama Main Line. The return trip is scheduled to depart from Takayama Station on Saturday, April 2, take a highway bus, and return to Busta Shinjuku at night. It is a good 1 night 1 day trip of 2 days and 1 night.
Purpose of Hida Furukawa's trip
The purpose of this trip was to witness the migration of carp and to verify the movement from Shinjuku to Hida. The reporter had a connection with the carp move. In the past, I made the mistake of being absent without permission on the day of the event while applying for a work experience. That morning, when I was fishing in the sea in Odawara, a phone rang to confirm my attendance. With this background, I did not participate in the work this time, but only visited the site, and by writing an article about my experience, I thought that I would be able to spread the word about the Hida Furukawa River as much as possible.
Tourist information center promoting Hida in the underground shopping mall of Shinjuku Station
The Keio brand stands out at the west exit of Shinjuku Station because of the concentration of railways and department stores. In the underground shopping mall that connects Shinjuku Station on the Toei Line and the west exit of Shinjuku Station, which I occasionally pass, there is a " Chubu Regional Information Plaza in Keio Shinjuku There is a tourist information center called "Tourist Information Center" that promotes tourism in Nagano, Yamanashi, Gifu and Toyama in the Chubu region. Here I learned about the highway bus between "Busta Shinjuku" and "Hida Takayama".

How to choose the Tokyo (Shinjuku) and Hida Furukawa routes
Hida is a famous tourist destination, but it takes a bit of time to access it by train from the city center. The royal route is to take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Nagoya Station. From Nagoya Station, it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes by limited express train. In addition, since the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the new recommended route is to take the Shinkansen to Toyama, and from there to Hida Furukawa in about 1 hour and 10 minutes on the Takayama Main Line. Toyama and Hida are historically known as Echichu Hida, and they are surprisingly close to each other. However, crossing the prefecture to Gifu after arriving in Toyama may be psychologically distant, especially for travelers from the Tokyo metropolitan area.
What I would like to propose here is a highway bus from Shinjuku. The journey takes 5 hours and 30 minutes, but you don't have to worry about transfers. Since you are just riding the bus, you can move around with weakness in the car. In addition, you can enjoy the local gourmet food and scenery of Nagano and Gifu at the service area where you stop along the way.
To summarize, in the case of a train, the total ride time is 3 hours 10 minutes ~ 4 hours or more. In addition, you will need 30~60 minutes for travel and waiting time. On the other hand, highway buses are much cheaper than trains, making them an attractive option.
The outbound route is a highway bus from Nagoya, and the return trip is a highway bus
In order to be in time for the carp move, which will begin around 8 a.m. on April 2, you must have arrived at Hida Takayama the night before. However, due to the Corona disaster and seasonal timetable changes, the last express bus from Busta Shinjuku is set at 14:35 (before Corona, it was 17:05). On that day, you will not be able to leave Tokyo until the evening, so you will not be able to take the last bus. For the outbound journey, we will not use the highway bus.
In search of Nagoya rice
After arriving in Nagoya, I had the option of connecting to the highway bus to Hida Takayama without waiting, but there was no need to rush. I'm in Nagoya now. Nagoya Meshi Let's have fun. Located in the underground mall of the station Misokatsu Yaba Ton I headed to. There was a little line, but I entered the store in about 10 minutes. I ordered the standard loin tonkatsu and enjoyed the southern Kyushu loin and rice soaked in sweet sauce.
From Nagoya, take a highway bus to Hida Takayama
After eating, head to the nearby bus terminal, buy a ticket (3,100 yen one way), and wait for the bus for about 1 hour. The train departs Nagoya at 20:45. When I hear the estimated time of arrival in the announcement, I feel the length of time, but I have plenty of time for my own clock. At the hotel "Hida Hanari no Yu Takayama Sakuraan" where you will stay in Takayama, the rooftop hot spring open-air bath is available until 25 o'clock. You will arrive at Takayama at 23:20, and if you check in at 23:30, you can soak in the hot springs for 1 hour.
Arrive at Takayama Station
The bus arrived at Takayama Station "Nohi Takayama Bus Center" before the scheduled time. The hotel is about a 5-minute walk away. On the way, I bought a can of beer and ripped squid at a convenience store. When I arrived at the hotel and checked in, the staff said, "Please have a drink and snacks there." The accommodation plan included beer, chuhai, water, beans, snacks, and ripped squid. Get a beer and beans and head to your room on the 11th floor. This hotel has a system for storing shoes in the shoebox space next to the check-in counter, and the facility is a full-room tatami room, and slippers are not required, so you can spend a comfortable time barefoot.
Rooftop hot spring open-air bath in Takayama
After leaving your luggage in the room, immediately head to the rooftop open-air bath on the 13th floor. The public bath is fully reserved, and several private baths are also vacant. The open-air bath here does not have a roof overhead, and the alpine city spreads out in front of you. It's so open that you think you can see it in bright hours. Since it is a Dormy hotel, it is known for its good cost performance, not only for hot springs, but also for its good breakfast. We went back to our room and enjoyed two cans of beer and a snack to end the night. If I hadn't gotten a beer at the front desk, I would have bought another one from the vending machine.
From the morning of the second day Medium part And. In the second part, we will introduce the carp moving work carried out under the clear sky, the cityscape of Hida Furukawa, and the direct bus on the return trip.
