Morning in Hida Takayama

prequel On Saturday, April 2nd, we welcomed the morning of Hida Takayama. I woke up at 6:30, and I remember that the wake-up call was ringing at 6 o'clock, but I gave up on taking a bath in the morning...

If you look out the window, you will see a surprisingly clear sky. Beyond the city with a good view are a series of moderately high mountains. It's a great day to watch the carp move. Go to the breakfast venue before departure. Dormy breakfasts have a wide variety of local dishes, such as Japanese and Western dishes, salads, and drinks, so you won't be disappointed no matter where you stay. The staff who take care of you are local mothers and they treat you comfortably.

Transfer to Hida Furukawa

After breakfast, check out after 7:20 and head to Takayama Station on the JR Takayama Main Line. The train departs from Takayama Station at 7:40 a.m. and arrives at Hida Furukawa at 7:59 a.m. The first train departs at 5:32 a.m. and the next train departs at 9:40 a.m. The local bus also leaves at 9 o'clock, so you can choose the train that departs at 7:40.

Arrive at Takayama Station 10 minutes before departure and board the train waiting on the platform. After the train departs, there is a feeling of entering the mountain range from the plains of Hida to the back mountains. After arriving at Hida Furukawa Station, you will see a nostalgic view of the city when you leave the station building. Furukawa was recently visited in 2018 and several times before that in 2013~2014 for work. At that time, I was accessing from Toyama Prefecture by rental car or bus. This area was called Echichu Hida, and they were promoting the route.

Nostalgic Hida Furukawa station front and mysterious train

After arriving at Hida Furukawa Station, I immediately headed to the overpass next to the station building. This place is known as the setting for a typical scene in the anime movie "Your Name." At that time, from the direction of Takayama? The train stopped on the platform. I thought the next train would arrive at 9:50, but I didn't pay attention to that. As I was writing this article, I was getting frustrated, so when I asked the public relations department of JR Central, the answer was unclear, "We will get back to you after confirmation, but it may take a week." It wasn't that important, so I declined to respond a week later.

To Tenjin Pond where the carp are caught

Head to Tenjin Pond. This city has an easy-to-understand design if you use the station as a guide. The main streets in the city are narrow alleys. Bicycle rentals are also available, but it feels just right on foot in the city. If you want to go out a little to the suburbs, there is no way not to use a bicycle. If you go 5-10 minutes from the city, you can run through the countryside and it is highly recommended.

It takes about 5 minutes from the station to the Seto River. We were already in the middle of the work, and we were not proceeding vigorously, but rather casually. This pond is a moat located on the site of Masushima Castle, which existed during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. I had the impression that it was a modest pond in the city.

A large net is used to catch carp, and it is guided to the area where the carp are caught. From the pool created there, carp are caught with a tamo. The water in the pond is drained, but it does not drain a large amount of water like in some TV show, so the carp continue to swim with little pain. Staff chasing carp need to have the technique of manipulating the tamo. The carp caught by Tamo are transported to the bed of a light tiger one after another in a flowing process.

The number of carp is 1192

When I asked about the number of staff, I was told that there were about 30 people. Cities, tourism associations, regional revitalization cooperation volunteers, Volunteer (Hidasuke) It is made up of volunteer residents. When asked how many carp he would move, he laughed and replied that it was 1,192. The exact number is not that important, and Furukawa is moving the carp in the hope that it will be "good".

Transfer to the Seto River

It's time to move to the Seto River. The highlight for visitors is the release of carp in the Seto River. The emphasis on the work side will be on the capture of carp in Tenjin Pond. After a lot of hard work, seeing the carp swimming in the Seto River will blow away your tiredness.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from Tenjin Pond to the Seto River. It is usually a time when I walk sideways with cars coming and going on the Koshu Expressway. In comparison, 10 minutes of walking through the streets of Furukawa feels much richer.

We arrived at the iconic Shirakabe storehouse on the Seto River. While newspapers and TV stations were coming to cover the event, a light truck brought carp just then. The carp release point is divided into four areas of the Seto River, each of which is assigned a light truck, but it is not clear which area the next vehicle will release it into. Transportation is carried out about 30 times, and about 1000 carp are moved.

The release starts from a block with a white-walled storehouse, and the good-looking colored Nishiki carp are released first. The other carp are then released into consideration of the landscape.
