"Introduction of fuel-efficient aircraft and development of fuels to reduce environmental impact as the first year of decarbonization" New Year's greeting by JAL President and CEO (original text)
As we welcome the new year, I would like to say a few words.
As the epidemic of the new coronavirus infection continues, including the emergence of new mutant strains, I would like to express my deep respect and gratitude to all those who are making efforts to protect human lives and bring the situation under control, including medical professionals.
The JAL Group continues to be in a difficult environment, but we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for the tremendous support and kindness we have received from our customers and others.

Last year, there were significant restrictions on domestic and international travel, but in hosting the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we were able to contribute to the success of the Games by helping the safe and secure travel of those involved in the Games as an official airline partner of the Games.
In addition, we are working on the prompt and safe transportation of the new coronavirus vaccine, and we believe that we have been able to fulfill our mission as a public transportation system.
Although the future continues to be uncertain, we will take various measures to prevent infection in order to provide safe and secure air travel to our customers.
Now, while the movement of people itself has become a risk due to the Corona disaster, the importance of meeting face-to-face and the value of travel, such as things that cannot be done without traveling, have also been reassessed. We believe that it is necessary to realize a sustainable society in order to regain a world where people and goods come and go freely, and to pass it on to the next generation.
In order to achieve "zero emissions" (virtually zero CO2 emissions) by 2050, the JAL Group has positioned this year as the "first year of decarbonization" and will work to introduce fuel-efficient aircraft and develop new fuels with low environmental impact through collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Last year, we celebrated our 70th anniversary. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your patronage and wish you all a wonderful year in 2022.
